The City of West Des Moines seeks an individual for the position of Urban Forestry Supervisor with a Bachelor's Degree in Urban Forestry, or other related field and at least three years of progressively more responsible experience in urban forestry management. Supervisory experience preferred.
Under the general direction of the Superintendent of Parks, the Urban Forestry Supervisor plans, develops, schedules, supervises and performs the management and maintenance of all trees, shrubs, and other horticultural plants on City property; originates, coordinates, maintains and implements all forestry related ordinances and plans for the City, including the Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan; supervises full-time, part-time, and seasonal forestry and horticulture staff and contractual labor; prepares plans, specifications, and bidding and contract documents; supervises contractors; and develops public relations plans and coordinates and implements public relations activities related to forestry and horticulture issues.
The desired candidate will also possess effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills, the ability to work independently with very little direct supervision, knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) applications, and the ability to take initiative.
Bachelor's Degree in Urban Forestry, or other related field and at least three years of progressively more responsible experience in urban forestry management. Supervisory experience preferred.
