Work study is a Federally funded program that provides the opportunity for students to earn money while gaining work experience. It can provide some regular monthly income to help offset educational expenses and reduce loan debt. Work Study is not a grant thus students must work to receive their funding. Students will typically work either through Iowa Central Community College or local not-for-profit organizations.
Work study is a need-based financial aid award. You must apply (and be determined eligible) for financial aid to receive work study. Funding is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis.
Awards can range up to $2000 - $3000 per academic year and you can earn only what you have been awarded. Your work-study funds will be disbursed only when you work the agreed upon hours.
Preference for work-study funds is given to students who have:
- the most financial aid need
- previously held a work-study position and whose job performance is in good standing
Steps to Apply for Work-Study
- Complete a FAFSA. The outcome of your FAFSA determines if you are eligible for work-study funds.
- Contact Justin Peters firstname.lastname@example.org and 515-574-1032.
There is no guarantee of employment or that you will earn the amount awarded to you.
