Adult Education/Literacy/HSED (formerly GED®)/ESL

Begin working on your High School Equivalency Test and get started on the life you deserve.

Starting in 2014, Iowa Central Community College, along with all Iowa community colleges, is offering HSED (High School Equivalency Diploma) classes to assist students in completing the five HiSET sub test areas in a computer based test format. The HiSET test offers students the same High School Equivalency Diploma from the state of Iowa as GED® has in the past.

Services

The Adult Education/Literacy Program offers free services to adults 16 years and older in the Iowa Central Community College area.

These services include the following:

  • HSED classes are offered in four counties. Students study with trained instructors to successfully complete the five GED® subtest areas: Writing, Math, Literature, Science, and Social Studies. Official GED® tests are administered in Fort Dodge, Webster City, Storm Lake, and Jefferson.
  • English as a Second Language (ESL) classes are offered at three Iowa Central locations: Fort Dodge, Webster City, and Storm Lake. Adults whose first language is not English can study English to improve in the areas of reading, speaking, listening, and writing. Learners may also participate in an online Rosetta Stone study course. All levels of learners are welcome!
  • I-Pathways:  The free On-Line Study Course for HSED
If scheduling or distance limits attendance in the HSED classroom, this free HSED on-line study may be a great option. Students enrolled in this on-line study program are highly-motivated, well-organized, confident using the computer, and comfortable with sending/receiving e-mails. I-Pathways can be accessed from any computer with internet service, any location, any time of day. Contact the HSED classroom instructor for more information.
