Pre-Athletic Training

Certified Athletic Trainers are medical professionals who specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation of injuries to athletes and others who are engaged in everyday physical activities. To gain certification, candidates must graduate from an accredited athletic training education program from and 4-year institution and successfully pass the Board of Certification (BOC) examination. Many states also have licensure requirements to practice athletic training.

The Athletic Training degree at Iowa Central Community College will allow students to gain valuable experience in the field of Athletic Training while still obtaining the Associate of Arts degree for transfer to the 4-year institution of their choice. The curriculum is rich in science to give the student a strong understanding of the human body, anatomy and physiology as well as experience working with athletes in the college setting.

Athletic Training students will have the opportunity to work Iowa Central’s athletic teams that compete at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division II level.

Course Schedule

After completion of the Associate of Arts degree, students may transfer to the 4-year institution of their choice. The classes within the program may be evaluated by the individual institution, but the classes contained within the curriculum are core athletic training classes.

Iowa Central is creating “2+2” programs with Universities that will allow students to transfer into the Athletic Training Education Program at different Universities, after going through the interview process with that University, being accepted into that program, and then graduating after the completion of another 2 years. For specifics on these 2+2 Articulation Agreements, please contact Kylia Doyle at doyle_k@iowacentral.edu
