Business A.S. Degree Program
Why Business?
Have you ever thought about what a career is business really entails? A career in business is more diverse than most realize. It can involve the obvious functions such as management and marketing in companies, although there is an increasing need for business majors to apply their skills in government, international commerce, health care, arts, and not-for-profit organizations. Business principles can serve as the backbone for economic, political and social systems at all levels.
A business degree can be applied to virtually any industry and can also be used to help start a business. Many students that start in business as career make it easier to advance or change careers even after they have started working in the corporate world.
Business at Iowa Central
The Associate of Science Degree in Business at Iowa Central is designed to prepare students for placement in a business position upon graduation, or fulfill curriculum prerequisites that will satisfy most Business Administration requirements at four-year colleges. Students are offered many courses to choose from, all of which will develop business skills in Management, Marketing, Accounting, Economics, Entrepreneurship, and Law.
The business classes incorporate lectures with discussion, in-class projects, and cases that allow the students to become engaged in the material. The business instructors strive to relate the information presented to current business situations, which leads the students to learn and apply the information. The instructors make themselves readily available outside of class for individual assistance.
Students are given an opportunity to participate in practicum courses that provide experience as they work in local businesses. Upon successful completion of the Business Program, students will have the skills necessary to move into entry-level business positions.
Students choosing to use this program for transfer to a four-year college should notify their Advisors so electives are used to fill specific courses requirements needed for transferring to various colleges.
