Medical Transcription Program Course Schedule
Medical transcriptionists transcribe physician-dictated material that becomes a permanent part of the patient’s medical record. The medical transcriptionist is an important part of the allied health team. Medical transcriptionists must be trained in a variety of areas such as medical terminology, pharmacology, anatomy, laboratory procedures; as well as grammar, keyboarding, and transcribing. Important skills required in medical transcription include listening, hand-eye coordination, hand-ear coordination, keyboarding, and patience.

*Students may receive advanced standing credit for Keyboarding Skill Dev. by successfully completing a 5-minute timed writing with a minimum speed of 65 words per minute with 5 or fewer errors without the use of the backspace key.
**Intro to Medical Transcription - Students must complete a 5-minute timed writing at a minimum speed of 45 wpm with 5 or fewer errors without the use of the backspace key before enrolling into course.
