This course provides basic biomanufacturing skills and knowledge required by students planning to work in a biotechnology facility. The materials covered include applied math, technical writing, record keeping and workplace organization. Students will also develop an understanding of technical concepts that include cell culture maintenance, sterilization, aseptic technique, basic laboratory skills and downstream processing of fermentation broth. There is no formal lab but the lecture will be supplemented with hands-on activities designed to introduce students to laboratory equipment and practices. This course provides 30 contact hours.
