This course shall provide a knowledge and understanding of human growth and development of children and youth in relation to physical activity. This is one of four courses that meet the requirements for the coaching authorization issued by the Iowa Department of Education.
FlexNet courses are taught via the internet using iNET (located in TritonPass). Students can enroll in a FlexNet course at any time throughout the semester as long as there is space available in the course, except the last three weeks of the term. Students have until the end of the term to complete the course from the time of enrollment and payment. All FlexNet courses end on the same date, the last day of the term, no matter the enrollment date. FlexNet courses do not have weekly deadlines, but it is highly recommended for students to stay on task.
No textbook is required for this internet course. All readings will be in the form of Word documents, Adobe portable file documents (pdf), or will link to specific web pages on the internet. All units will be graded on the responses to the unit reviews and quizzes.
Method of Instruction
Students of this course will primarily learn by actively reading internet articles through specific links on the world wide web, and thoughtfully answering unit questions. An observation paper is also required as well as a final examination. The student enrolled in the self-study course needs to be motivated to complete the course workload without direct instructor supervision.
