Introduction to Psychology

Course Description

This flexnet course guides you in discovering the tools used in the study of psychology, basic psychological processes, personality and social behavior, contemporary knowledge of motives, intelligence, learning and emphasis on the language of modern psychology.

Course Delivery
FlexNet courses are taught via the internet using iNET (located in TritonPass). Students can enroll in a FlexNet course at any time throughout the semester as long as there is space available in the course, except the last three weeks of the term. Students have until the end of the term to complete the course from the time of enrollment and payment. All FlexNet courses end on the same date, the last day of the term, no matter the enrollment date. FlexNet courses do not have weekly deadlines, but it is highly recommended for students to stay on task.

Software and Hardware Requirements
The student will need to have access to the Internet and will need access to a word processor such as Microsoft Word or Microsoft Works. A printer would be helpful but not absolutely necessary.

Computer Literacy Requirement
The student must have some previous experience working with computers and the Internet; must be able to use e-mail; and should be familiar with sending attachments.

Assignments

  • Completion of approximately 20 short answer study guide questions for each of 16 chapters. These are not timed. Results will be returned and feedback given within 5 days. (approx.33% of final grade)
  • Completion of 10 critical thinking activities. These 15 point assignments consist of practical application life events in which you critically think about the situation, do the required assignment and then summarize your findings/learning in a page or less summary. (approx. 18% of final grade)
  • Completion of 6 unit exams and one cumulative final essay exam. Tests consist of 45 randomly selected multiple-choice questions and 3 critical thinking essay questions. These are timed. Results will be returned and feedback given within 5 days. (approx. 39% of final grade)
  • Various True/False, matching, or multiple choice quizzes throughout the course. (approx. 10% of final grade)

Your instructor welcomes communication through e-mail. All information needed for the course is available within the online course. It is highly recommended to stay on task to help insure completion of the course on or before the end of the term.
