Multicultural Student Union (MSU)
Open to all Iowa Central students who are interested in taking a “hands on” approach to gaining awareness of a variety of issues such as age, language, race/ethnicity, sexual/gender identity, ability, and socioeconomic status, and who wish to see “full and equal participation of all groups in a society that is mutually shaped to meet their needs,” (Adams, Bell, & Griffin, 2007). The goals of this group is to both educate and be educated, but more importantly, to be active agents of change in the Iowa Central and Fort Dodge communities.
MSU Goals
- To utilize human resources and potential in the hope of creating an environment of mutual respect on campus, in the community, and the larger society.
- Create awareness.
- Be active gents of change.
- Promote tolerance and acceptance.
MSU Objectives
- To organize campus and community activities.
- To encourage understanding of cultural diversity.
- To strive for positive acceptance of cultural diversity by all participants.
Events
What this group strives to do is participate in both on-campus and off-campus (ICCC Give Back) events to create awareness about diversity as well as to give back to the Fort Dodge community.
Meetings
Spring Semester (2009)
Meetings will be held in LIB-203 from 3:00-4:00 p.m. These will be "active" planning sessions for the events that the MSU will hold throughout the semester.
