Organizations, business, and individuals’ external of Iowa Central offer scholarship opportunities to students.  Listed is the summary of the scholarship and the contact information for the person, organization or business that are awarding these scholarships.  Students may apply for these scholarships by completing the application process designated by the organization, business, or individual offering the scholarship.

A Place for Mom Annual Senior Care Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 Scholarships – 5 Awards


  1. Must be an undergraduate or graduate student.
  2. Must be seeking a degree in gerontology, medicine, nursing, social work, sociology, psychology, physical or occupational therapy, speech pathology or long-term care administration.
  3. Applicant must be attending classes at the time of the spring deadline.

BBG Communications Scholarship

Amount:$500 – 1 Award


  1. Be between the ages of 16 and 21 on June 30, 2016
  2. Submit answers to the two essay questions, which can be found on the application page, prior to the June 30, 2016 deadline.
  3. Have at least one full year of post secondary studies remaining at the time of the award
  4. Have a GPA of 2.5 or greater.
  5. Be a citizen of the United States or Canada.

Business and Professional Women of Iowa Foundation

Amount: (4) $1,000 Scholarships


  1. Completes the formal application in its entirety by March 23, 2016.
  2. Submits a copy of official transcripts from an accredited institution of higher learning. (Transcripts if stamped “Issued to Student” are acceptable.)
  3. Provides three (3) letters of reference from non-family members. One each from an employer, teacher, and community leader who can attest to applicant’s character and need for this scholarship.
  4. Is a resident of Iowa.
  5. Is a United States citizen.
  6. Wants/needs to reenter the workforce but needs additional education.
  7. Graduated high school five (5) or more years ago (2011 or before) and now wants to start or resume a college education.
  8. Demonstrates financial need, scholastic ability, leadership skills and career goals.

Carl and Eva Swanson Scholarship


  1. Be a high school senior at a high school located in Webster County,   Iowa.
  2. Be of Christian character.
  3. Be under privileged or a member of a minority group.
  4. Have a minimum unweighted cumulative GPA of 2.5 through the latest fall term. 
  5. Attend any accredited college, university or vocational   school full- time within the State of Iowa.
  6. Scholarships may be renewable for up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is obtained, whichever is earlier.

Come 2 Iowa Senior Scholarship

Amount: (2) $1,000 Scholarships


  1. US Citizen
  2. Permanent residents of one of the following states: Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wisconsin.
  3. Seniors at a high school located in Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota or Wisconsin during the 2015 – 2016 school year.
  4. Attend college in fall 2016 at an eligible institution located in Iowa.
  5. Are at least 13 years of age as of the date they begin the scholarship process.
  6. Register & read scholarship rules at www.IowaStudentLoan.org/Come2Iowa
  7. Follow the instructions they will receive by email to complete two online financial literacy tutorials and a related assessment by 4PM Central time on May 13, 2016.
  8. If necessary to break a tie among top scorers on the assessment, write and submit a brief essay.

D. Fred and Marian L. Bovie Technical Scholarship

Amount: One award for $2000 for tuition and fees only.

  1. Student is pursuing a minimum two-year associates degree in welding.
  2. Proof of financial need is required to qualify.
  3. Applicant must be a citizen of the U.S.
  4. Must have a  minimum 2.8 grade point average.
  5. May be enrolled full-time or part-time.
  6. Financial need is required to qualify.
  7. Applicant must submit all required application information.
  8. Applicants may reapply; however, persons who have received this award may reapply and may be granted the award for a maximum of 4 years.

Des Moines Mothers of Multiples Scholarship

Amount: $500

  1. Be a multiple birth student (twin, triplet or higher order multiple).
  2. Be either
    • A senior in high school with plans to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school; or
    • A high school graduate (or equivalent) student currently attending or planning to attend a college, university, trade or vocational school as a degree seeking student.
  3. Be a resident of Iowa.
  4. Provide an official copy of your most recent academic transcript in a sealed envelope from your school. Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 or higher is required.
  5. Submit two (2) letters of recommendation that state the strengths and character of the applicant.  The name, address and phone number of the person writing the recommendation, as well as the nature of the relationship (cannot be an immediate family member) and the length of time the applicant has been known by said individual, must be included.
  6. Submit a 300-500 word essay discussing one of the following two topics:
    • Your educational plan stating how this scholarship will help further your education; or 
    • How being a multiple has impacted you and advice you would give to parent(s) who are raising multiple-birth children.
    • The essay must be typewritten, double-spaced and printed on white paper only.
  7. Provide an acceptance letter from the college, university, trade or vocation school you plan to attend or an enrollment verification letter from the registrar’s office if currently enrolled in the institution.  An enrollment verification letter will also be required upon the start of the term.
  8. Submit copies of Birth Certificates for the applicant and the multiple birth child(ren) in order to verify multiple birth family status.
  9. Have all envelopes postmarked no later than April 1, 2015.  We prefer all documents be sent together at the same time.  However, if some documents need to be sent separately, they should clearly identify the applicant.

Global Health Nursing Scholarship

Amount: $3,000


Selection Criteria is evaluated by overall merit and quality of the scholarship essay in addition to the other criteria below. Financial need is not a consideration for this scholarship. The winner of the annual scholarship will be chosen by the administrative staff of NurseJournal.org based upon the overall merit of their registration. Candidates are judged on formal registration and the written essay portion. Registration is weighted 25%, Essay 50%, and Work History and Activities at 25%. Additional considered criteria are: GPA (min 3.2 on a 4.0 scale) Extra-curricular activities Employment history. The criteria considered in the written essay is your ability to write a strong answer that directly answers the global health question that is presented. You will also need to provide insights based upon facts to support any claims you make.

Amount: $500 – 1 Award


  1. Be attending college or university no later than October of 2016.
  2. Be attending college or university on a full-time basis by October of 2016.
  3. Have achieved a GPA of 2.5 or greater during their last academic year.
  4. Be attending a school in the U.S. or Canada by October of 2016.
  5. Be a US or Canadian resident.

Great Lakes STEM Scholarship

Amount: $2,500 Scholarships


  1. High school senior or graduate, or current postsecondary undergraduate or graduate level student
  2. Minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
  3. United States citizen or permanent resident
  4. Able to demonstrate financial need by providing documentation from the most recent tax return filed by the student or the student’s parents
  5. Plans to enroll full-time at an accredited, nonprofit two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school for the entire 2016-2017 academic year

Hawkinson Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 Highschool / $4,000 - $5,000 for Undergrad and Grad Students


  1. Must be a resident of (or currently attending school in) Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin.
  2. Applicants be high school, undergraduate, or graduate students. High school students are considered for separate high schools scholarships.
  3. Does not consider financial need or religious affiliation

Specifically, looking for students who demonstrate a commitment to peace and social justice through one or more of these ways:

  1. Completed a specific peace or social justice project.
  2. Demonstrated courage in carrying out their convictions about peace and social justice.
  3. Displayed ongoing commitment to, and leadership in, a peace or justice organization.
  4. Served as a role model for others to move society or a religious organization into new realms of thought and practice regarding peace and justice.

Amount: $1,000 Scholarships – 4 Awards (2 in the fall, 2 in the spring)

Hy-Vee Foundation Scholarship (High School Graduates/College Students)

Amount:  40 - $1,000 Scholarships

  1. High School Seniors:
    • Be a high school senior working for Hy-Vee or Subsidiary who began employment on or before September 15, 2015.
    • Be a high school senior son or daughter of a full-, regular-, or part-time Hy-Vee or subsidiary employee who has a minimum of six months employment as of September 15, 2015.
    • Applicant must be enrolling in college for the first time.
  2. Returning College Students:
    • Applicant must have been employed at a Hy-Vee location (office, distribution, retail) or subsidiary location after June 1, 2015.
    • Applicant must be classified as a full-time student in their freshman, sophomore, or junior year during time of application process
    • Applicant must be classified as a full time sophomore, junior, or senior at the time funds are disbursed.

Iowa Hospital Education and Research Foundation Scholarship

Amount: $3,500 Scholarships

  1. Must be enrolled in an accredited health care education program listed on the application
  2. Be within two years of completing your education.
  3. Must work for an Iowa hospital. (one year per scholarship awarded)
  4. Must be willing to commit to working one year in an Iowa hospital for each year of scholarship award.

Iowa Ready Mixed Concrete Association 2016 Scholarship

Amount: $500 - $5,000

  1. Applicant must be enrolled at an accredited two or four year institution of higher learning in Iowa, or any school with a “concrete construction” program.
  2. Students shall have attained sophomore status or higher (as of November 30, 2015).
  3. Students must be seeking a degree in an area of study that would benefit his or her preparedness for a potential career in the ready mixed concrete and construction/engineering industries.

ISU Transfer Scholarships

The Office of Student Financial Aid (OSFA) at Iowa State University has an online scholarship application called FinAidScholar.  The FinAidScholar application is a single application for all scholarships administered through the OSFA.


Here are the steps that your students need to complete to be considered for OSFA awards:

  2. Read the directions
  3. Register for a Net-ID (Directions included on website)
  4. Click on “Apply on our FinAidScholar Website!”
  5. Log in with your Net-ID
  6. Select the Transfer Application
  7. Click on “Click Here to Apply!”
  8. Complete the application by March 1st  
  9. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) prior to March 1st

This application is ONLY for scholarships administered through The Office of Student Financial Aid.  Please be sure to let your students know that they will need to check with their college and/or department, and private donors to maximize their scholarship search.

Iowa Women in Natural Resources (IWINR) Scholarship

Amount: $500 Scholarship
Requirements: The Iowa Women in Natural Resources (IWINR) has a $500 scholarship opportunity for a graduating senior or a current student that intends to or is already attending a college, university, or community college in the State of Iowa.  This is a non-gender based scholarship.  The scholarship is for somebody pursuing a career in the natural resources field.  This could include, but not limited, to the following

  • law enforcement
  • habitat management
  • environmental science
  • biology
  • wildlife
  • education
  • computer-related skills (GIS, web design)
  • environmental law
  • financial management
  • farmers
  • landowners
  • engineers
  • landscape architects

Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Scholarship

Amount: Receive up to $40,000 per year to attend a 4-year undergraduate institution for tuition, living expenses, books, and other required fees.

  1. Be a current student at an accredited US community college or 2-year institution with sophomore status ora recent graduate (within the last 5 years)
  2. Have a cumulative college GPA of 3.5 or above.
  3. Plan to transfer to a 4-year college or university to begin studies in the following fall.
  4. Demonstrate unmet financial need. Applicants with annual family income up to $95,000 will be considered. However, the majority of scholarship recipients to date have been eligible to receive a Pell Grant.

James B. Morris Scholarship

Amount: 20-30 scholarship awards of $1500 & $2500

  1. Applicants must be of minority ethnic status as defined by the Equal Employment Opportunity

Karl King Memorial Scholarship

Amount: (2) $1000 scholarships

  1. Only band instrument scholarships will be awarded to Iowa students. (String Bass and Piano are not considered regular “band” instruments).
  2. Two one-year scholarships to Iowa Central Community College, Fort Dodge. These tuition scholarships will be $500. The award is paid in 2 installments – one each semester upon receipt of a class schedule indicating enrollment in music classes.
  3. A one-year scholarship will be awarded to an Iowa resident student for tuition to an Iowa college of his/her choice. This scholarship is for $1000. The award is paid in 2 installments – one each semester upon receipt of a class schedule indicating enrollment in music classes.
  4. The recipient of each instrumental scholarship must be either a graduating high school senior or a college freshman.
  5. Scholarship applicants must submit the following materials to the address below by March 11, 2016.
    a. Completed application form.
    b. Three completed scholarship recommendation forms.
  6. All finalists are expected to play with the band on one march selection that will be rehearsed after the audition (approximately 2:00). The finalists that are not selected as winners will receive $50 in the mail shortly after the audition day. If you are senior in high school that does not win, you may re-apply next year as a college freshmen.
  7. Applicants will audition in Fort Dodge on Sunday, April 3, 2016 before a committee of three Karl King band members. Auditions will begin at approximately 11:30 a.m. Selections written with an accompaniment part should be performed in that manner. ALL finalists will be expected to play on one march with the Karl King Band on their regular concert at 3:30 p.m. that afternoon. One scholarship winner will be invited to perform their solo on this concert.

MassMutual Life Insurance Company

Amount: $5,000

  1. Be entering sophomore, junior, senior or 5th-year senior year in pursuit of an undergraduate degree during the 2016-2017 academic year. 
  2. Plan to attend a degree-seeking program, full-time at a U.S. accredited institution in the U.S., Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands or Guam. 
  3. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Apply for federal financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at www.fafsa.ed.gov.
  5. Show proof of U.S. citizenship or legal permanent residency with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551 (if selected).
  6. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate:

MaxYield Cooperative Agricultural Scholarship

Amount: $1,000 (6 will be awarded)

  1. Applicant must be a MaxYield Cooperative client or dependent of a MaxYield Cooperative client.
  2. Applicant must be a high school or college student enrolled in an agricultural curriculum.
  3. The applicant must complete the application form. Forms are sent to area guidance counselors and high schools, available on our website, PDF below, or may be picked up at any MaxYield locations.
  4. Applications must submit a written essay with the application, no more than one page, entitled “Why I selected agriculture as my career.”
  5. Applicants must submit a copy of your high school and college (if applicable) transcripts.
  6. Applicants must be enrolled as a full time freshman, sophomore, or junior student at an accredited College, Trade School, or a high school graduating senior enrolling into the fall semester at an accredited College or Trade School.
  7. Applicants must have cumulative GPA of at least 2.5 at a local high school or college.
  8. Maximum number of times a student can win the scholarship award is twice.
  9. The awarded scholarship will be applied toward tuition for Fall Semester.

Mesothelioma Cancer Alliance Scholarship

Applicants Include:

  • Those who have battled cancer at any point in their lives (not limited to mesothelioma).
  • Those who have a parent, sibling, immediate family member or close friend that has battled or is currently fighting cancer


  1. Must be enrolled full-time at an accredited two-year or four-year university, community college or junior college, or a graduate degree program.
  2. This scholarship is offered nationwide to US Citizens

Roy J. Carver Scholarship (for transferring juniors)

Amount: $5,200 and will be considered for renewal for senior year

  2. Graduate of an accredited Iowa high school, or resident of the state of Iowa for at least five consecutive years immediately prior to application
  3. Junior classification fall semester 2016
  4. Full-time enrolment (12 credits or more)

T.E.A.C.H. Early ChildhoodŽ IOWA

Amount: $2,000/year at a community college or $4,000/year at a university

  1. Work in a regulated preschool, child care center, or home program for at least 30 hours per week (or full time for the hours your preschool offers programming)
  2. Have worked with children birth to age 5 in your current program for at least 3 months
  3. Are working toward an early childhood degree, credential, or endorsement program at an Iowa college (or would like to be)
  4. Have the support of your employer (if applicable)

Varsity Tutors Scholarship

The Veterans United Foundation Scholarship

Amount: 3 scholarships up to $20,000 to help pay for tuition and books.

    • Surviving spouse or child of a deceased Veteran of the U.S. Military
    • Currently enrolled or planning to enroll in a college or university by the fall semester of 2016
    • Pursuing an associate’s, bachelor’s, graduate, post-graduate or doctoral degree
    • Comfortable with sharing personal stories and aspirations with Veterans United Foundation
    • Willing and able to provide the following within 1-2 days of requests made by staff of Veterans United Foundation:
      1. Decesed parent or spouse’s military documents (DD214 and death certificate/ or DD1300)
      2. Full FAFSA submission
    • Willing and able to provide Veterans United Foundation with receipts or invoices related to eligible educational costs as they are incurred in order to receive payment. Eligible costs include tuition, books, fees, school materials and some aspects of room and board as determined by Veterans United Foundation. Payments may be made directly to the school or reimbursed to the award recipient.

Application Period Key Dates:

Fall Dates: March 7, 2016 through April 1, 2016: Online application, essay prompts, and essay upload box will be open to applicants. On November 30th, the scholarship recipients will be announced.

Application Process: Starting on March 7, 2016, at 8 a.m. CST, a link to the spring 2016 scholarship application will be available bottom of the scholarships page.

    1. Follow the link and fill out all portions of the application, attaching all requested documents.
    2. Failure to answer all questions or provide all documentation could deem an application ineligible.
    3. Once submitted, NO confirmation email will be sent to the applicant. Any requests from applicants asking for verification of submission will not be granted.
    4. Subsequently, no direct notification will be sent to the applicants who were not chosen as a winner of the scholarship.
    5. Winners of the scholarship will be contacted directly via email or phone and asked for a series of documentations to verify eligibility.
