Iowa Central Community College is excited to open the William G. Smith Simulation Center to provide health care students, and professionals, an opportunity for “hands on” learning. The Simulation Center is currently being used as a part of Nursing and EMS student clinicals, but will be available later this year for use by current health care professionals.
The 10,000 square foot center has eight simulation labs: a medical-surgical room, a labor and delivery room, a nursery, a pediatric room, an apartment setting, and an ambulance simulator, emergency department and skills lab. In addition, two classrooms are available that can accommodate 16 students in each room.
The simulated training will utilize nine life-size high-fidelity mannequins programmed to replicate a comprehensive array of different patient conditions ranging from newborns to geriatrics.
Healthcare simulation improves patient outcomes, safety, effectiveness and efficiency of health services.
