FORT DODGE - Iowa Central Community College held its annual Veterans Day ceremony this Friday in the Student Resource Center at 11:00 a.m.
The ceremony, which was hosted by long-time Iowa Central faculty member Judge Brown, featured several pieces from the Iowa Central Performing Arts students, some written works by Iowa Central students, recognition of U.S. Veterans in attendance, as well as a moving speech from Iowa Central President and U.S. Veteran Dr. Dan Kinney.
Dr. Kinney, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, told a story of when he and five other members of his National Guard unit were returning home on leave from Afghanistan and storms delayed their flight. Dr. Kinney was moved to tears and stopped several times during his speech to compose himself as he continued on with his story saying that six people gave up their seats so that he and his unit member could get home to see their families.
The ceremony was attended by over 200 students, faculty, and community members in the SRC. KICB, the Iowa Central student radio station, also ran interviews with veterans on campus throughout the day and also aired a special Veterans Day broadcast that featured interviews and sound bites from the ceremony.
