FORT DODGE - The Iowa Central dance program continued to impress on the national level last weekend as it placed sixth at the National Dance Association (NDA) Nationals held in Dayton Beach, Fla., on April 12 and 13.
Iowa Central competed in the Dance Division III category and was one of eleven teams in the category. Iowa Central danced in the semi-finals on Thursday morning and advanced to the “Challenge Cup” for a shot at one of the seven spots in the finals. Iowa Central advanced and competed in Friday’s finals at the famed Dayton Beach Bandshell and finished sixth.
“It is such a huge honor to even make it to Nationals and to be dancing on such a high caliber with some of the most prestigious and talented teams in the nation,” said head coach Cassidy Vermeer. “Plus making it to finals is another huge stride that the girls were very proud of that they were able to conquer.”
Vermeer says the experience is one that the team will never forget, but should also pay dividends in the future.
“The experience and feel of dancing on the Bandshell stage is one that these ladies will never forget,” said Vermeer. “To know that all of their hard work and dedication has paid off is an honor in itself.”
The NDA Nationals is the largest national competition that offers a division for two-year programs to compete in.
