Iowa Central Community College wrapped up yet another successful short term certificate program in Storm Lake on April 2nd. Five students completed the eight week welding course and now have the basic knowledge and skill to move into the workforce. Classes in Beginning Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Blueprint Reading, and Fabrication gave students the necessary education to work in the welding industry. Students were given the choice to continue onto more education in Fort Dodge, but most enter into a career where they can become prosperous.
Students from all over the area came to better themselves. With a short term orientation program, adults from Storm Lake, Galva, and Denison were able to move into the program. Whether it was coming early to class to learn more or staying after class for lab work and extra study time, the students put in the essential time to make sure they didn’t fail. The dedication was inspiring to see the obstacles the graduates went through to receive the certificate.
Iowa Central Community College has implemented and successfully completed several certificate classes at the Storm Lake campus. These certificate programs are made possible by the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant. The programs are offered as non-credit but are given advance standing to be translated to credit should the student decide to go on and get the full diploma. The classes included are those considered by Iowa Central’s advisory board to be crucial for entry level job placement. Therefore, these certificates open up two possible pathways for students to pursue. They can either add them to their resume to seek immediate employment, or turn them into credit, giving them a head start on earning a diploma.
Iowa Central Community College will be holding a production welding certificate program and industrial maintenance certificate program in Storm Lake starting in June. Enrollment is open now for the summer courses in Storm Lake. For more information, contact TAACCCT Project Manager Lindsay Henderson at (515)574-1973, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
