Social Media Revolution workshop to feature Emmy award-winning media director

Social Media Revolution will be the topic at hand next week for Iowa Central Community College’s monthly Journalism and Digital Mass Communications workshop. The workshop, to be held Wednesday, November 12th from 10 a.m. to noon in the Triton Cafe conference room, will teach participants how to use important social media apps to promote their publications, establish their brand, and broadcast live events using Twitter.
Social Media Revolution’s keynote speaker is Erica Hanna, an Emmy-award winning creative television producer and new media director. From Minneapolis, Hanna has worked with the likes of Ellen DeGeneres and Prince while serving as a television producer, writer, director, and editor. After 10 years in the industry, Hanna used her skills to propel her into the world of social media and creative strategy where she helped to triple website traffic to BringMeTheNews.com in less than a year, and later became the Director of New Media at Curb Crowser, an integrated branding agency which handles clients like General Mills and Nestle.
Hanna’s past speaking engagements include keynoting Social Media Bootcamp and AdFed events, the Associate Collegiate Press conference, Midwest Journalism conference, National Press Photographers Association, and Social Media Breakfast. She was also named one of the top “under the radar leaders” in the Twin Cities as well as a Geek Girls Guide “Geek of the Week.” Hanna’s passion has been raising more than $30,000 for water wells in Africa by way of social media which earned her Klout’s national “Klout for Good” award.

The next Iowa Central Journalism and Digital Mass Communications workshop, Social & Digital Media Careers, will be held December 10th at Iowa Central. Multiple social media experts from though out central Iowa will be part of a lecture and question and answer session during the workshop which is designed to introduce new and expanding career fields in the social and digital media industry. The December workshop is also open to all high school and college students and to the public.
