FORT DODGE - Eight members of the Iowa Central band were selected to participate in the All-Iowa College Honor Band this weekend, and will perform in a free concert in downtown Ames on Saturday, Nov. 19.

“It's an honor to be selected considering that from hundreds of nominations, eight of our kids were selected,” said Iowa Central Band Director Paul Bloomquist. “The best part is the musical experience they acquire and bring back to share with the band. I always notice these players as comfortable leaders after the honor band.”

Rachel Hansen (Flute, Alden), Ben McCartney (Trumpet, Davenport), Sarah Moeller (Alto Sax, Fort Dodge), Chloe Petersen (Clarinet, Knierim), Sarah Schumack (Flute,Fort Dodge), Jacie Simon (French Horn, Rockwell City), Zach Sjoberg (Clarinet, Webster City), Sean Strachan (Bass Trombone, Humboldt) were all selected to represent Iowa Central.

The All-Iowa College Honor Band will practice all day Friday in Ames with guest conductor Dr. Paula Crider from the University of Texas, Professor Emeritus. They will do a pair of performances on Saturday with the morning performance coming in the Iowa State University band room. The afternoon performance will be a free concert at the Ames City Auditorium.

The band will be performing Trumpet Gloria (after Dufay's "Gloria ad modum tubae") by Donald Grantham, Seal Lullaby by Eric Whitacre, Three Dances of Enchantment by Luigi Zainelli, Strange Humors by John Mackey and Semper Fidelis by John Philip Sousa.
