DES MOINES - Iowa Central’s Team Build finished 3rd and were called to the victory stand at closing ceremonies to receive their bronze medals. Team Build consists of four students from our carpentry program. When they arrive to compete, they are given blueprints to complete a room, in a day and a half. This year their blueprints were for a bathroom and laundry room. They not only use their carpentry skills, but also install the electrical and plumbing, and they lay brick on an exterior wall. The four Team Build members are: Victor Loera, Rudy Reyes, Ben Stevens, and Brian Waskow. Congratulations to the team and their advisors, Sone Chounthirath and Nick Sesker!!

Dan Alcazar competed in the Residential Wiring contest. In the Residential Wiring competition, Dan received electrical blueprints to wire his panel. The first day of competition was spent installing the boxes and bending conduit. The following morning, competitors ran the wire for their booth. Electrical instructor, Dan Kemnitz, is the advisor for this competition.

Michael Hoff competed in the Welding competition. Welding competitors received blueprints for projects in Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding, Fluxed Core Arc Welding, Oxy Fuel Cutting, and Plasma Arc Cutting.

In addition to these six students, our Welding Fabrication Team finished 1st at the state competition, but because of job commitments, they were unable to get off work to compete at Nationals. The welding fab team included Joel Arnold, Zach Hoppe, and Eli Wellman. Branden Otto, Welding Instructor, is Michael’s advisor and also the advisor for the Welding Fabrication team.
