Iowa Central packs Homecoming Week 2011 with activities

FORT DODGE - The Iowa Central Student Activities group has planned an event-filled week for Homecoming 2011. A complete list of activities can be found at the Iowa Central website. Homecoming 2011 t-shirts are available for purchase through Iowa Central cheer coach, Amanda DeBaun at 515-574-1344.
The week begins Monday, Sept. 19, with another installment in the “Movies that Matter” series. The movie will be Freedom Writers and the free showing will begin at 7:00 p.m. in the Biotechnology and Health Science Building auditorium.
Tuesday will get the school-pride flowing with the Homecoming Bonfire from 8-10:00 p.m. in the parking lot west of the pond. Hotdogs, hot chocolate and cookies will be available during the bonfire. Iowa Central will follow the bonfire with a fireworks show.
Wednesday is start of the Iowa Central Hall Decorating Contest. Any Iowa Central club, organization, program or department must have their decorations finalized by 4:00 p.m. Judging will take place on Friday with winners announced at the pep rally.
Also on Wednesday, The Athletic Department will be hosting a “Blue Out” for the three Triton athletic programs in action. Fans are encouraged to wear blue to the women’s and men’s soccer games and the volleyball game. Prizes and t-shirts will be given out throughout the day at each game. The Iowa Central men’s and women’s soccer teams will take on Iowa Lakes at Harlan Rogers Complex beginning at 2:00 p.m. Shuttles from campus to Harlan Rogers will run at 1:45 p.m. for the women’s game and 3:45 p.m. for the men’s game.
At 7:00 p.m., the volleyball team hosts Southwestern at Hodges Fieldhouse and the “Blue Out” continues.
Thursday features the Homecoming Dance from 8:30-11:30 p.m. at the Opera House. Students may only attend with a valid student ID. The student apartment and floor with the best attendance will receive two free pizzas per room. The winners will be announced Sunday at the football game.
Friday brings the final judging of the Hall Decorating Contest and a Homecoming Pep Rally from 12:00 – 12:30 p.m. at Hodges Fieldhouse. Fall head coaches will speak and a combo performance from the Iowa Central cheer squad and dance team will also be featured.
Saturday begins with alumni games for various sports beginning at 10:00 a.m. and concludes with the Alumni Hall of Fame Banquet at 5:00 p.m. at Hodges Fieldhouse. The second annual Triton Hall of Fame class will be inducted at 8:45 in Decker Auditorium.
Homecoming week wraps up with a tailgate at Dodger Stadium on Sunday beginning at 10:00 a.m. There will be a shuttle running student from campus to the stadium, and students eat free with an ID. The whole week leads up to Noon on Sunday as the football team faces Grand Rapids.
