The William Greehey Scholarship is finalized at Iowa Central Community College to benefit first generation students.

In November, the William Greehey Family Foundation made a $1,000,000.00 gift to the Iowa Central Community College Foundation to fund scholarships for first generational students attending the school.

Greehey is a first generation student himself who grew up in Fort Dodge.  After his high school graduation he joined the Air Force and attended St. Mary’s University on the GI Bill.

Bill began a successful career in the oil industry at Exxon, and later transformed Valero into the nation’s largest refinery.  He retired from Valero in 2005, but has since returned to be the chairman of a spinoff company, NuStar Energy.

Mr. Greehey started the William Greehey Family Foundation in 2003.  The Greehey Foundation has shared his success and passion for helping many causes focusing on health and human welfare issues, children, education, and the homeless.

With the establishment of this scholarship, Iowa Central can continue his vision and passion for giving people the chance to make their lives better.
