Information and Cyber Security Program

The Information and Cyber Security Diploma is a focused program designed to develop a skilled workforce in the field of information technology and network security. Graduates of this diploma acquire specific skills related to investigating and analyzing cyber intrusions, maintaining security protocols, and safeguarding information technology networks of various sizes. By mastering these competencies, students become adept at protecting critical information, assessing threats, ensuring system integrity, and contributing to analysis of cyber incidents.

The curriculum encompasses a range of essential topics:

  • Preserving Information Confidentiality and Protection: Safeguarding sensitive data.
  • Compliance with Security Standards: Adhering to industry best practices.
  • Data and System Integrity: Ensuring the reliability and accuracy of information.
  • Availability, Authenticity, and Utility: Balancing accessibility and security.
  • Understanding Network Infrastructure: Navigating network components and protocols.

Upon completion of the program, students will be proficient in the following areas:

  • Cyber Security Investigation and Analysis: Identifying and responding to cyber threats.
  • Security Protocol Maintenance: Implementing and managing security measures.
  • Network Infrastructure Understanding: Grasping the intricacies of network architecture.

Program Duration:

  • Full-time students can complete the Information and Cyber Security Diploma in approximately 1 year.

Industry Certifications


An integral feature of the program is preparation for industry-recognized certifications. Graduates will be well-prepared for the following certifications:

  • CompTIA PenTest+
  • CompTIA Security+
  • CompTIA Cyber Security Analyst certification exam (CySA+)

Cyber Security Career Opportunities


Between September 2022 and August 2023, there were over 572,000 cyber security job openings nationally across private and public sectors. While the cyber security workforce is growing rapidly, demand is growing even faster. (ISC)2’s 2022 cyber security workforce gap analysis revealed that despite adding more than 464,000 workers in the past year, the cyber security workforce gap has grown more than twice as much as the workforce with a 26.2% year-over-year increase, making it a profession in dire need of more people. The program welcomes students from diverse backgrounds, offering a fast track to numerous employment opportunities in preserving information confidentiality, ensuring compliance, maintaining data integrity, and understanding network infrastructure.

  • Cyber Security Ventures predicts there will be 3.5 million unfilled cyber security job openings in 2025.
  • Cyberseek.org provides real-time data of the number of cyber security-related job openings on a state-by-state basis.
  • CompTIA Cyberstates provides national, state, and metropolitan area tech sector and tech workforce analytics.

  • Dale and Donna Decker Transportation Scholarship Awarded to students enrolled in the diesel, logistics, accounting, semi-truck driving, or CNT programs at Iowa Central. Satisfactory academic standing, good moral character, and financial need are all considered.
