The annual Iowa Central Percussion Concert will include a special appearance by the Omaha Street Percussion.

The concert is set for Thursday, April 7 from inside Decker Auditorium beginning at 7 p.m. There is no cost for admission.

Along with the Iowa Central Percussion and Omaha Street Percussion performing, the OSP will be conducting presentations and workshops for elementary schools around the area during the day prior to the evening concert.

“This is all possible thanks to the support from the Catherine Vincent Deardorf Charitable Foundation,” said Jeremy Smith, Director of Bands at Iowa Central. “This is a great way to help improve numbers in music participation at multiple age levels around the state.

“As music is a lifelong endeavor, we want to see more participating in ensembles starting with middle school and going through high school, college and beyond.”

The workshops will provide a presentation that’s full of high energy through the use of various recycled items and instruments they have made over the years. Students will be involved throughout the show.

“I wanted to bring a music performance of a different style and genre to the area and to Decker Auditorium,” Smith said. “Their performance is entertaining to those young and old and we want as many as possible to see it.

“This is not just an event for Fort Dodge, but for all of our area communities.”

Omaha Street Percussion is directed by Justin Fisher with members including Jeff Babcock, Dakari White, Chris Sikkema, Tony Lever, Josh Meyer and Henry Fernandez.
