The first two weeks of classes are in full swing at Iowa Central.

To welcome students back a variety of activities have taken place on campus and in the Fort Dodge community.

Activities began on the first day of classes, Monday August 22, with an evening cookout and games in the campus courtyard, followed with a bingo and pizza night in the Student Resource Center on Tuesday. Mentalist Brian Imbus entertained students in the BHS Auditorim and the first week wrapped up with Free Food Friday in the Student Resource Center on August 26.

Students had the opportunity to get a look at what the campus and community has to offer with a community welcome back fair to kick off week two. Several campus organizations, area businesses and churches were on hand to introduce students to their programs and services, along with free root beer floats for everyone in attendance.

One highlight for many students was the Back to School Bash, held at Fort Frenzy. Students were given free two-hour passes to experience many of the activities Fort Frenzy has to offer; taking part in games, laser tag, miniature golf and go-karts.

Freshman Angel Jose, from Clear Lake, arrived on campus prior to the start of classes to participate in the Triton Marching Band and is also a member of the basketball team. He has taken advantage of the many activities to get acquainted. Tuesday, Jose and several teammates took part in the activities at Fort Frenzy. He had also participated in Free Food Friday and the community welcome back fair.

“It’s been an awesome start,” he said. “I’ve been here for a few weeks.”

Connor Brus, a sophomore from Churdan also attended the events with his teammates.

“Stuff like this, it makes for a good start,” he said of the bash and bingo nights.

Rounding out the week of activities were an outdoor movie night on campus, a visit from some exotic animals and another Free Food Friday in the Student Resource Center.

I chose Iowa Central because it provided an extremely good opportunity for me to have a successful path in my chiropractic endeavors. My favorite memory here at Iowa Central was meeting so many people who I know continue to have an impact on my life down the road.
