The SRC Lawn on the Iowa Central Campus will come alive with music as the Iowa Central Vocal Music Department presents its annual fall concert on Friday evening, September 29.
The concert will feature performances by each of Iowa Centrals vocal ensembles: The Triton Singers, Pop Voices, Encore Singers and Vocal Jazz as well as a variety of soloists from the groups.
This year’s concert theme is “Broadway and Beyond” and will showcase familiar tunes such as “Seasons of Love” from the hit musical “Rent” and “Bridge Over Troubled Water.”
“For our first concert of the year we try to rotate between doing a sacred music concert and a Broadway or secular concert,” said Will Lopes director of vocal music at Iowa Central. “We try to do our secular concert outdoors; the last one we did outside was our Broadway concert in Oleson Park. This concert we feature all Broadway, TV, and movie tunes.”
Other selections will feature music of the popular Broadway musicals “Hamilton” and “Les Miserables.” Several selections will also be accompanied by a group of local musicians.
“We always involve the community in some way with our first concert, by having it out in the community or inviting local singers or musicians to be part of it,” said Lopes.
The concert will begin at 7 p.m. on the north lawn of the Student Resource Center. Admission is free.
“Come out and bring a lawn chair or blanket, a snack and enjoy a great evening of music,” said Lopes.
Iowa Central is awesome. There are personable teachers, a large campus feel, excellent music and drama departments, and the college is generous with scholarships. I’ve had some of the best experiences of my life here.
