Iowa Central’s annual fall play production opened to a full house Thursday evening, October 19, in the auditorium of the Bioscience and Heath Sciences Building.
This year’s production, “Makin’ It,” a dramatic comedy by Iowa Playwright Cynthia Mercati, was described by Thursday’s audience members as "uplfiting" “amazing and emotional,” and a play that “every student should see.”
The play takes the audience back to the late 1980’s where they will witness the ordinary kids you see walking down any hallway in any high school navigating their way through life.
The large cast tells the story of the athlete, the good kid, the troublemaker, the misfit, the girl struggling with self-image, the "in" crowd, and the boy dealing with troubles at home, how they come to understand that they all face trials and tribulations, and how, truly, they are all the same as they learn to understand and accept themselves while striving to make it through four years of high school.
Throughout the production, there are scenes of singing and dancing, as well as “frozen scenes” where characters step out of the action to address the audience with their own thoughts through monologues.
There are still three opportunities to see “Makin It,” this weekend, with performances at 7 p.m. Friday October 20 and Saturday October 21 and a matinee at 2 p.m. Sunday October 22.
Limited tickets are still available for each performance and may be purchased at the door. Tickets that have been pre-purchased online may be claimed at the box office in the BHS lobby prior to the show. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for students. Doors will open 30 minutes prior to each performance. Seating is general admission.

I chose Iowa Central because it provided an extremely good opportunity for me to have a successful path in my chiropractic endeavors. My favorite memory here at Iowa Central was meeting so many people who I know continue to have an impact on my life down the road.
