Students, faculty, staff and the community will have the opportunity to see and taste the world without leaving the Iowa Central Campus on Wednesday April 10 during the 35th Annual Focus International Festival of Nations.

The event will begin at 10 a.m. and continue through 2 p.m. in the Triton Café.

New this year, the Focus Festival will feature international cuisine and food from around the world rather than one specific country, Jessica Butterfield Bailey, festival coordinator, said.

“We chose to change and go with a theme of food rather than just one country,” said Butterfield Bailey. “That can really broaden the event and represent many more countries.”

Students and staff, as well as the community, are encouraged to attend and even have a display or food samples at the event.

“Anyone from a specific cultural background, or even if they just have a special interest in a country can create a display and participate,” said Butterfield Bailey. “We would love to see a large representation from around the world.”

The Triton Café will offer an internationally themed lunch during the event, and community members in attendance will receive a free meal.

This is the 35th year for the Dr. Mary Sula Linney Focus International Series. The series was created by Dr. Linney, a long-time Iowa Central employee, who was a Spanish instructor, department chair, and associate vice-president for the college until 2005. Iowa Central keeps her legacy alive through the annual festival.

Focus Festival Set for April 10

I chose Iowa Central because both of my parents came here and absolutely loved the environment. I was able to be a part of so many programs at once which isn't offered at other colleges. I knew right away after visiting that it would be a great school where I could better myself as a student and as an athlete.
