Iowa Central Community College has appointed a new member to its Board of Directors, filling the District 1 vacancy. On Nov. 12, 2024, Kati Lemberg was approved to take over the board seat previously held by longtime member Darrell Determann.
“I am honored to have been selected to serve on the Board of Trustees for Iowa Central Community College,” said Lemberg. “As a proud 2003 Triton alumna, and with our daughter Reese having graduated just this past May, this appointment is particularly meaningful for me and my family.”
Determann served on the Board of Directors for 20 years, beginning his tenure in 2004. A former teacher and principal in the Eagle Grove School District, Determann was a mentor to many, supporting local teachers, coaches, and Iowa Central faculty over the years. He was known for his dedication to education and his commitment to Iowa Central’s growth and success.
In addition to his work on the board, Determann served as a liaison to the Iowa Central Association of Community College Trustees Board, now known as Community Colleges for Iowa, for more than a decade. In 2017, he received the John P. Kibbe Award from Community Colleges for Iowa, recognizing his significant contributions to both his community and the college. His ability to challenge and inspire thoughtful decision-making on the board was instrumental in shaping Iowa Central’s achievements over the past two decades.
Determann announced his retirement in early October, and a notice of the vacancy was published in the Fort Dodge Messenger as required by Iowa Code. Lemberg will occupy the board seat until Nov. 3, 2025, when the term expires. The seat will then be open for a public vote on the Nov. 4, 2025, ballot.
“Iowa Central is not only a place of learning, but a hub for personal and professional growth,” Lemberg said. “I am excited to work alongside my fellow trustees, faculty, staff, and students to uphold the mission of Iowa Central to provide quality educational opportunities in and outside the classroom. I look forward to giving back to the institution that played such a pivotal role in my own educational journey and continues to impact the lives of students in our community.”
