Coach Kevin Twait to Deliver 58th Commencement Address

Iowa Central Community College is proud to announce that longtime coach, mentor, and athletic director Kevin Twaitwill serve as the 2025 Commencement Speaker, addressing graduates during the ceremony on May 9, 2025. In what will be his final commencement before retirement, Coach Twait will deliver a message titled "Don't Fumble," bringing decades of leadership, wisdom, and inspiration to the stage one last time.

Coach Twait’s impact on Iowa Central is immeasurable. A native of Emmetsburg, Iowa, his coaching and leadership journey spans over three decades, including 29 years of service to Iowa Central. Known for his steady presence and unwavering commitment to student-athletes, Twait has become synonymous with Triton excellence.

After earning his bachelor’s degree in business education from Buena Vista University and his master’s in secondary school administration from Missouri State University, Twait began his career as a graduate assistant coach. He went on to serve as a defensive coordinator and head coach at several high schools before returning to Buena Vista to lead the Beavers. In 1996, he joined Iowa Central and would go on to transform its football program.

Under his leadership as head coach of the Triton Football team, Twait guided the team to:

• 8 regional championships

• 16 bowl game appearances

• 11 bowl victories

• 31 All-American athletes

Beyond the wins and accolades, Coach Twait has always focused on building character, instilling discipline, and developing young men into leaders both on and off the field. In 2018, Coach Twait became Iowa Central's Athletic Director and has worked diligently to uphold the Triton Athletic Program’s reputation as one of the premier community college athletic programs in the country. In April, Coach Twait was honored with the NJCAA Mary Ellen Leicht Service Award, the most tenured honor granted by the association, given to those who have made significant contributions to two-year college athletics on a national level for an extended period of time. 

Off the field, Coach Twait is a proud husband, father, and grandfather. This July, Coach Twait will celebrate 40 years of marriage with his wife, Cathy. Together, they have four children and nine grandchildren. 

As Iowa Central prepares to send off the Class of 2025, it is only fitting that a figure who has given so much to this institution will deliver the final sendoff.
