Iowa Central Community College welcomed more than 300 middle school students and staff to campus on Thursday, April 2 for its annual Middle School Visit Day, creating a day full of exploration and hands-on learning.

Students from Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, East Sac, Humboldt, Paton-Churdan, and Perry joined Iowa Central for a day designed to spark curiosity and inspire future goals. Held twice a year, Middle School Visit Day continues to bring young learners to campus to explore opportunities and experience college life firsthand.

Throughout the day, students selected pathways based on their interests and participated in hands-on sessions led by Iowa Central faculty. Many different academic programs were explored, spanning STEM and health sciences to the arts and career and technical education. Students engaged in interactive experiences like welding, exploring health labs, and getting a behind-the-scenes look at broadcasting and digital media production.

Departments across campus played an active role in hosting the visiting students, with representatives ranging from academic advising and athletics to college and career transition counselors helping guide sessions and share insights about college life and future pathways.

“Middle School Visit Day was a great opportunity for students to visit campus, explore different career paths, and start thinking about their futures,” said Raeann Dischler, Dean of Student Services. “Students selected a pathway for the day based on their interests and participated in hands-on sessions with our faculty. We welcomed over 300 students and staff from Clarion-Goldfield-Dows, East Sac, Humboldt, Paton-Churdan, and Perry.”

In addition to academic exploration, students enjoyed campus tours, lunch, and opportunities to connect with faculty, staff, and student ambassadors. The energy throughout the day reflected both excitement and curiosity as students imagined their next steps.

As Iowa Central continues to invest in its communities, Middle School Visit Day remains a key part of its mission to build connections and provide a pathway to a better life for the next generation of learners.

I chose Iowa Central because I loved the campus environment. Everyone was so welcoming. The softball team made it feel like a home away from home.
