EMS professionals across the nation will be recognized during National EMS Week, May 17–23, 2026, a week dedicated to honoring the essential role emergency medical services providers play in protecting the health and safety of communities.
The 52nd annual EMS Week theme, “Improving Outcomes, Together,” highlights the importance of collaboration across healthcare systems, communities, and education programs to better support EMS professionals and the patients they serve.
National EMS Week is presented by the American College of Emergency Physicians (ACEP) in partnership with the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT).
At Iowa Central Community College, the theme “Improving Outcomes, Together” reflects the college’s commitment to preparing the next generation of EMS professionals through hands-on education, clinical training, and real-world experience.
The Iowa Central Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program prepares students for careers in an expanding and critical healthcare field. Graduates are trained to assess and manage medical, trauma, and cardiac emergencies under physician direction or established protocols, and are eligible to complete National Registry examinations upon successful program completion.
The program offers multiple levels of certification and advancement, including:
- Emergency Medical Responder (EMR)
- Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
- Advanced EMT (AEMT)
- Associate Degree Paramedic
Through these pathways, Iowa Central students gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to serve their communities in high-pressure, life-saving situations.

Iowa Central gave me the opportunity to do both things I wanted for myself. To major in dental hygiene and play soccer.
