Rain Couldn't Dampen the First Day at Iowa Central

There is something special about the first day of classes at Iowa Central Community College. The campus comes alive with students finding their classrooms, faculty welcoming new faces, and staff making sure every Triton feels ready to begin a new semester.

This year, the first day arrived with a steady morning rain. But the weather did little to dampen the excitement across campus.

Triton staff members were out in force, umbrellas in hand, helping students navigate campus and find their classrooms. From walking students across campus to answering questions and offering a friendly welcome, Iowa Central faculty and staff are comitted to going above and beyond to make sure the first day is successful for all new and returning Tritons.

And the rain didn't stop one of Iowa Central's favorite first-day traditions: Pizza with the President. Students still stopped by to grab a slice of pizza, visit with President Dr. Jesse Ulrich and spend some time with other students. 

The first day of college can bring a mixture of excitement and uncertainty, particularly for students who are new to campus. Having someone there to point the way (or walk with you, holding an umbrella overhead), answer a question, or simply offer a welcoming smile can make a big difference.

That is what makes Iowa Central special. Our faculty and staff are committed to helping students succeed, not just in the classroom, but throughout their entire college experience. Whether it is holding an umbrella on a rainy morning, helping a student find a classroom or sharing a slice of breakfast pizza with the Dr. Ulrich, these small moments reflect the larger commitment Iowa Central has to its students.

The rain may have changed the way the first day looked, but it did not change what it meant. A new semester has begun. New goals are taking shape, better lives are being built.
