Iowa Central Community College Business & Community, in partnership with Iowa Total Care, is helping individuals prepare for a high-impact, in-demand, and rewarding career through the free, online Direct Support Professional (DSP) Developmental Disabilities Certificate Program.

Direct Support Professionals provide essential support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, helping them live more independently, participate in their communities, and achieve their personal goals. As demand for qualified professionals continues to grow, this certificate offers an accessible pathway into a meaningful career in human services.

"Iowa Total Care is proud to support Iowa Central Community College’s commitment to developing the next generation of direct support professionals," said Bryan Sanders, Iowa Total Care Plan President & CEO. "Together, we are creating pathways for individuals to gain the knowledge and skills needed to provide high-quality care and improve the lives of Iowans with developmental disabilities."

Designed for both individuals new to the field and current professionals looking to expand their skills, the free 40-hour online program covers topics including developmental disabilities, individual rights, communication, documentation, community inclusion, and positive behavior supports. Upon successful completion, students earn a certificate from Iowa Central Community College.

The certificate is completed entirely online, allowing students to learn on their own schedule while preparing for employment in a growing field. Participants need only a reliable internet connection and a computer or laptop to complete the coursework. “Accessing training can be a challenge for some of our communities. Providing this class in an online format removes those barriers, increases accessibility, and ensures more individuals have the opportunity to participate and benefit from the training,” said Shelly Blunk, Dean of Economic Development and Continuing Education. Registration is now open. For more information, call 515-574-1293 or email noncredit@iowacentral.edu.
