Logistics and Transportation Management is on the move! Iowa Central’s Logistics and Transportation Management program is now being titled Supply Chain Management with the same return on investment, earning potential and career opportunities!
Supply Chain Management remains the heart beat and foundation for all goods and service providers, business activities, and service providers including own Iowa Central Community College! Supply Chain Management (SCM) is an essential element to operational efficiency. SCM can be applied to customer satisfaction and company success, as well as within societal settings, including medical missions; disaster relief operations and other kinds of emergencies; cultural evolution; and it can help improve quality of life. Because of the vital role SCM plays within organizations, employers seek employees with an abundance of SCM skills, knowledge, creativity, and the desire to find new ways of bringing efficiency and effectiveness to the department, company, or organization.
Supply chain management is critical to business operations and success as today’s competition is global in nature. The world has become one big supply chain providing opportunities for global production, transportation, storage, procurement, etc. with a rapid growth of multinational corporations and strategic partnerships; global expansion and sourcing; environmental concerns; reverse logistics, each of these issues dramatically affects corporate strategy and bottom line. Because of these emerging trends, supply chain management is the most critical business discipline in the world today providing the means for competitive advantages and greater bottom-line profits for companies with innovative and creative supply chain management people or the 2nd option being consumed by competition.
As a supply chain manager you’re involved in rapid paced environments planning, coordinating, and implementing the transfer of goods, materials, and services from manufacturing and suppliers all the way through the customers. You have the opportunity to oversee the whole process from the beginning to the end, the opportunity to be creative and innovative with a think outside the box perspective, allowing you to know job satisfaction, growth, and opportunity while making your company or organization the leader in the industry by decreasing the use of large fixed assets such as plants, warehouses and transportation vehicles in the supply chain! In SCM we call that building efficiency and effectiveness day-in and day-out with exponential results!
Today’s Supply Chain graduates find excellent career opportunities in Supply Chain Management. The Wall Street Journal reports supply chain management graduates are in short supply providing great value and economic benefits for program graduates in careers that provide robust experience and opportunities. The future is bright for Supply Chain Management careers, careers that are not sit down or static in nature rather opportunities to be in a dynamic problem solving environment.
