FORT DODGE – Iowa Central Community College will host the 24th annual Festival of Nations on Sunday, April 7, in the Career Education Building. The event will feature a mix of food vendors, tasting tables, crafts, displays, videos, music and dancing from 25 different countries. It begins at 1:00 p.m. and continues through 4:00 p.m. in the Career Education Building gymnasium. The event is open to the public and there is no admission charge. Food tickets can be purchased for 25 cents at the door.

The event is part of Iowa Central’s annual Focus International series. Each year the Focus International committee selects a country and plans activities and other events to help students and community members learn more about it. This year’s Focus country is the Philippines.

Throughout the year Iowa Central spotlighted the Philippines in a number of ways. In addition to guest speakers and campus movies, a panel of Filipino speakers spoke to students about their lives in the Philippines. Iowa Central also chose the book When the Elephants Dance as the Focus International book. Additional copies were made available in the Library and Bookstore and instructors included it into their curriculum.

Also as a part of the Focus International Series, Fort Dodge’s famed Karl King Band will include Filipino pieces in their concert at the end of April
