The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) Program sponsored by the Internal Revenue Service and located on the Fort Dodge Campus of Iowa Central Community College, has provided free e-file and tax preparation for 10 years. Volunteer tax preparation is staffed yearly by the Accounting Associate and Numbers at Night Interns.
The Accounting Interns are required by the Internal Revenue Service to successfully pass rigorous exams on tax law at the Advanced Level. In addition, Interns complete an extensive exam on Ethics and Quality Standards for proper operating procedures when assisting clients.
The VITA program is coordinated by Ms. Jessica Martens, Wealth Management, First American Bank and Dr. Dawn Humburg CPA, Accounting Associate and Numbers at Night Programs Coordinator. Ms. Martens, a former Intern and Accounting Associate graduate, completed her Internship through the VITA Program. Our partner agency was and continues to be the Fort Dodge Community Foundation and United Way. Jessica had such a fulfilling and outstanding experience as an Intern that she was quickly hired by the FD Community Foundation as their accountant. Since that time, she has volunteered to coordinate the VITA Program every year.
Tax preparation services begin this Saturday, January 28, 2017 at 9 a.m. in AST-101. To qualify for these free services, individuals must have gross income of $30,000 or less and married taxpayers must have gross income of $60,000 or less.
