Fort Dodge - Iowa Central Community College is proud to announce the 2019 Hall of Fame nominees. The event to honor notable Alumni will be held Saturday, October 5th at the college. “For more than 50 years, Iowa Central has helped students get to the next step to achieve their dreams and be a vibrant part of their community. Our Hall of Fame event provides Iowa Central, fellow alumni, faculty and staff a chance to recognize their contributions and accomplishments,” notes Iowa Central president, Dr. Dan Kinney.
A new category has been added to the event this year. For 2019, Iowa Central will honor its first Distinguished Faculty and Staff nominee. “Our Alumni are greatly impacted by so many here at Iowa Central during their time as a student. The new award is designed specifically to recognize an individual who served as a faculty member or staff that had a great impact on our students,” shared Mary Ludwig, executive director of development and alumni. The first recipient of the new award is the late Larry Boyd. Boyd taught in the math and science department from 1998 to 2004, and served as the Department Chair of Mathematics and Science from 2005 to 2010. He lost his battle with Lewy Body Dementia in 2016.
In addition to the Faculty/Staff award, Alumni will be recognized for the Distinguished Alumni award, and Triton Athletic Awards. The 2003 Baseball team and baseball player Joe Anthonsen will be recognized in the athletic category, as well as Fort Dodge wrestling standout Erik Josephson.
In the distinguished alumni category, Fort Dodge Schools Superintendent, Dr. Jesse Ulrich will be recognized, as well as Fort Dodge attorney Charlie Walker, and Dr. Margo Halm. Dr. Halm is a second generation alumni inducted into the Hall of Fame. Her father, Robert Halm, received the Humanitarian award posthumously in 2013.
The evening will begin at 5:00 PM with a social hour, followed by honoring the inductees. Guests will enjoy a large selection of heavy hors d’oeuvres and a silent auction will be held featuring a wide variety of items. Tickets for the event are on sale at the Triton book store and in the administration office for $20 each. I love the late nights in the library studying with friends, sometimes laughing more than studying.
