Fort Dodge, IA - Iowa Central Community College is ramping up efforts for an eventful fall season with a myriad of activities and special events for students, alumni, and the local community to enjoy. From hosting the National Council on Youth Leadership (NYCL) recognition ceremony and bringing in motivational speaker Chris Norton, to a week-long celebration planned for homecoming; Iowa Central is committed to providing great opportunities for people to learn and grow.
In early September, the college had the privilege of hosting the 2019 NCYL Youth Salute Recognition Ceremony. This special event acknowledges outstanding high school seniors for their exemplary leadership skills. Iowa Central was humbled to hold such an occasion for the leaders of tomorrow.
On September 11th, motivational speaker Chris Norton made an appearance at Iowa Central’s Student Research Center to tell his story of triumph over adversity. While playing college football, Norton suffered a severe spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed with a 3% chance of regaining movement below his neck. Through rehabilitation and personal determination, he has regained function of his hands and upper body. He spoke in front of a crowd of students and the public.
“We are extremely proud to be able to bring these types of functions and public figures to our campus,” said Dr. Dan Kinney, President of Iowa Central Community College. “By providing engaging events and activities for students and the public to participate in, we can foster positive growth in the classroom and the community. Next, we are looking forward to an exciting homecoming week; welcoming Triton Nation to come together for fun events and special occasions.”
Iowa Central’s 2019 Homecoming starts on September 30th with a sand volleyball tournament at Amigo’s and “Sacred Sounds” choir concert at the Crossroads Mall. Other student activities throughout the week include a comedian/mentalist performance, a fall cookout, pep rally, and fireworks. Iowa Central has two home games scheduled during homecoming week. Women’s volleyball takes on Ellsworth Community College and the football team will face off against Garden City Community College.
On Saturday, October 5th 2019, Iowa Central will host their annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. This ceremony brings together alumni and other distinguished guests for an evening to honor the commitment and achievements of those in the Triton family. Awards are presented to those in the categories of Triton Humanitarian, Distinguished Alumni, Distinguished Faculty & Staff, Triton Athletic, and Triton Athletic Team.
