Fort Dodge, IA - Iowa Central Community College student, Olivia Erenberger, is currently spearheading a fundraiser to help Australian wildlife and communities affected by the recent wildfires. To gather funds, Erenberger is selling photos she captured of the country while visiting on a study abroad program last spring. All proceeds of the photo sales are being donated to the Port Macquarie Koala Hospital, New South Wales Rural Fire Service, Riverina Bushfire Appeal, and The Rescue Collective.

“The fundraiser has raised around $450 so far,” said Olivia. “I plan to keep the fundraiser open so people can continue to buy photos and donate, then I will continue sending the donations to the different organizations.”

Erenberger has received a great response from the public. News channel, KCRG, recently covered the story of her campaign. People have also been sharing the fundraiser across social media.

“We are extremely proud of Olivia for creatively taking action to help build support for causes that will assist Australia during a time of need,” said Dr. Dan Kinney, President of Iowa Central Community College. “She is an inspiration for Triton Nation and the entire community.”

Olivia was raised on a farm in Solon, Iowa, and has been around animals all her life. While growing up, she showed cattle and horses in 4-H and even attended classes at a neighboring school in order to join an FFA chapter. This passion led her to visit many places–including Brazil-for an agricultural study abroad and later complete an A.A.S. degree at Iowa Central for Agriculture Technology. Her love for animals was one of the many reasons Erenberger set out to help the wildlife of Australia and those affected by the fires.

When asked what advice she would give to those looking to get involved with the wildfire relief efforts, Erenberger said, “Do your research on what organizations you would like to support, whether it be to help the firefighters, animals, or victimized communities. I have chosen a few different places to donate to, helping to cover multiple aspects.”

Erenberger is very active at Iowa Central and in the community. She has been involved in the Iowa Central PAS (Post Secondary Agricultural Students Organization) and has also been a part of the college’s rodeo team as a barrel racer. Her photography is currently being featured in the “Analog It” film-based art exhibit at the Blanden Memorial Art Museum in Fort Dodge.

I chose Iowa Central because I loved the campus environment. Everyone was so welcoming. The softball team made it feel like a home away from home.
