FORT DODGE - Not only does the Iowa Central Bookstore want to buy students’ books back, it also wants to give them an iPad!

The Bookstore will once again be buying back textbooks at the end of the semester, but this semester there will be an added bonus. In addition to receiving up to 50 percent of the original purchase price of the textbooks, any student that sells a book back to the bookstore between December 10 and 19 will be entered to win a new iPad. The drawing for the iPad will take place on Thursday, Dec. 20, at 4:00 p.m.

“We want to be students’ first stop in selling their books,” said Bookstore Manager Samantha McClain. “At most schools, bookstores only buy books back for less than 10 percent. We usually buy them back for up to 50 percent of original purchase price if we are using it again the next semester.”

McClain said the idea for the iPad drawing came about as a way to get students into the bookstore to not only sell their books back, but check out all of the new Iowa Central apparel that include dozens of items from Nike and Under Armour.

“We wanted to let students know to come here first,” said McClain. “We usually give back more than anyone else and we want students to be able to get the most bang for their buck. This also helps us cut down on our shipping costs by not having to order books from the publishers, which keeps costs down for students.”

In another effort to help students sell their books, Iowa Central has partnered with the Nebraska Book Company (NBC) to give students the opportunity to sell books that will not be used next semester. In the past, Iowa Central has not re-purchased those books. NBC will be on campus Dec. 17, 18 and 19 and purchasing the books in cash. “It’s all about helping the students,” says McClain.

“We want students to be able to walk away from our store saying ‘They bought every book,’” said McClain. “We are offering the promotion to encourage students to sell their books to us before Christmas break rather than waiting until they come back in January.”

Book buyback begins on Monday, December 10. Credit will be issued on all books purchased by the bookstore and refund checks will be issued on Friday, Dec. 21, for all books purchased before Wednesday, Dec. 19. Direct deposit can also be set up through WebAdvisor so students can get their money faster.

All rented text books are due back to the Bookstore by 1:00 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 21. Students may begin buying textbooks for the Spring 2013 semester with their financial aid on Monday, Jan. 7.

The Bookstore is open Monday-Thursday from 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. and 8-4:00 p.m. on Fridays. On Thursday, December 13, the Bookstore will remain open until 7:00 p.m. The Bookstore is located in the Student Resource Center in the middle of campus.
