Iowa Central's Triton Gallery at Decker Auditorium is hosting the Iowa Watercolor Show now through December 5, 2011. The gallery is open from 1-4 PM on Saturdays and Sundays.

The Iowa Watercolor Society is an organization committed to supporting and encouraging the advancement of the watercolor medium and showcasing the artistic talents of Iowans. The society holds an annual meeting that includes a juried art show open to all IWS members. The show is selective, and the IWS provides over $2500 in cash and prizes for each show. The judge this year was Don Andrews, well-known artist, author, journal contributor, and international presenter. A call for entries for this competition went out earlier this spring, and judging took place in September.

The traveling show includes about thirty paintings selected from the juried show. In an attempt to support local artists and bring quality art to all areas of the state, the IWS offers this exhibit free of charge to interested galleries.. The Waterloo Art Museum, Fort Madison Area Art Association, the Art Guild of Burlington, and the Fairfield Art Association are some of the more recent galleries hosting the show. All have had favorable comments and have invited the IWS to display at their galleries again when the show comes back to that area of the state. The show will travel to Cherokee, Storm Lake, and Spencer in 2012.
