FORT DODGE - In a Des Moines Sunday Register feature article rating the state of Iowa’s workplace environments, Iowa Central Community College was ranked as the fifth best place to work in the state among large companies. Several factors went into the ranking process including size, employees hired within the last 12 months, expected hires for the next 12 months as well as the results of employee surveys taken in April and May.

“This is a great honor for Iowa Central Community College to be ranked so high among some amazing companies in Iowa,” said Iowa Central President Dr. Dan Kinney. “It is a credit to just how good of an institution we are.”

Perishable Distributors of Iowa, LTD, an Ankeny-based company, was the top large-sized business in the poll. Des Moines Area Community College was No. 2, Pella Regional Health Center was No. 3 and Hy-Vee was No. 4. Iowa Central was ranked ahead of well-known businesses like Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Nationwide and Rockwell Collins.

“When I interviewed a couple of years ago I saw the love that everybody who worked here had for the institution and this rank proves it,” said Kinney. “I truly feel that our employees are excited to come to work each day because of the great work we do in serving our students.”

Just last week, Iowa Central announced its 38th consecutive semester on enrollment growth. Iowa Central has also opened two new buildings in the past three years with the Biotechnology and Health Science Building in 2009 and the Student Resource Center in 2010. Plans are currently under way for a third new building as the Market Café, a new cafeteria, is scheduled to open in 2013.
