For the last couple of years, Iowa Central Community College has been offering short-term Production Welding certificates in Storm Lake. Recently, the college wrapped up another successful cohort. One student will be continuing their education, while the rest will be entering the workforce. We wish them the best of luck.

The welding students not only learned valuable skills, they were able to tour several companies around the area to see how important their skills are to the workforce. GOMACO, Positech, and Fisher Hydraulics opened up their doors and gave informative tours to the students.

The certificate programs offered are made possible by the Trade Adjustment Assistance Community College and Career Training (TAACCCT) grant. The program is non-credit but college credit is given should the student decide to go on and get the full diploma. The welding classes included are those considered by Iowa Central’s advisory board to be crucial for entry level job placement. Therefore, these certificates open up two possible pathways for students to pursue. They can either add them to their resume to seek immediate employment, or turn them into credit, giving them a head start on earning a diploma.
